Ms. Tracy's Lesson-12/13/10
Today, Ms. Tracy divided us to 3 groups. The main idea was to divide us and give us a sheet of paper which tells about a culture and then in the end the judges see how they interact with each other. In my group I had Marijn, Nemke, Robert, Lana, Oguz, and me. Actually, there were 2 MAIN groups. The 3rd one were the judges. The judges were Remer and Stefan. She handed our group a sheet of paper. It said to pretend to be a Pandya ( a culture). It was a very unusual culture because it said they should not begin a conversation, they should only speak when its necessary. It also said for men to not talk directly to women from other culture. They have to tell the chaperon what you wanted to tell her. It was a very unique culture for me. We were practicing how to talk with the other cultures. After, she called us in. She said to pretend the chispas ( their culture) invited the Pandyas' to a party. When we started, it was fun to interact and pretend. But then, I got confused when I said "Hello ma'm!" and then she said " I liked to be called by my name!". A little while later, after interacting with everyone, we discussed with the judges what they observed during interacting with each other. Finally, we told what Pandya's culture was. The chispas was much more better than the Pandyas. They were friendly, liked to be called by first names, and very social. The main thing was to experience what its like to be open-minded.

Why Do We Need To Read Everyday?
We need to read everyday because so then we can impove improve our English and improve our vocaboolary vocabulary. Mrs.J also gave us a reading log so we can write everyday what we read and how many pages did we read, etc, etc.

What is Active Listening?
Active listening means to listen to the speaker, sit up straight ( body facing toward speaker), and to ignore distractions. You don't just listen to the speaker. You also think about what he/she was saying. Correct the words in your mind if the speaker didn't use the words he/she was supposed to. Ex.= I has so many plants in my garden ( I have so many plants in my garden).

What did I learn???
I've learned sooooooooo many things! I will start in Math. I learned how to make an improper fraction to a mixed number, how to make a percent into a mixed number, how to estimate, how to divide, what the divisibility rules are, how to measure, and so much more! Now lets go to reading. I learned that you have to at least read for 30 mins., you have a reading log with you, your parents need to sign it, your teacher also needs to sign it, you need to read everyday, if you read, you will know more hard words, you do a book project every month, and so on! Let me tell you what I've learned in writing. I've learned how to write neatly in cursive (I love this font!), punctuation, vocabulary, capitalization, essays, and more!!!!! Now, to rules. Of course I've learned that you should always follow the rules! But, I'm a bit worried that some people at OUR school BULLY A LOT!!! So, what I've learned is to NOT bully people because that would be terrible if I did!!! That's really ALMOST everything I've learned.
